When you’re lying in the dust of Apocalypse World guts aspilled, for whom do you pray? The gods? They’re long gone. Your beloved comrades? Fuckers all, or you wouldn’t be here to begin with. Your precious old mother? She’s a darling but she can’t put an intestine back inside so it’ll stay. No you pray for some grinning kid or veteran or just someone with a heartshocker and a hand with sutures and a 6-pack of morphine. And when that someone
comes, that’s an angel.

-- Fifty some odd years after a nuclear war devastated the earth, the remains of the human population have managed to pull themselves from the ashes to begin building anew. Safe to say... it's not pretty. Once massive cities bustling with people have been reduced to something akin to small villages, maybe a poor excuse for a 'town.' Bandits and bicycle gangs roam the wastelands, supply trucks constantly ambushed - ultimately leaving those 'towns' to wither and die when their last bit of hope doesn't show up for the fifth time this month.

But there's a city somewhere that isn't so bad. Enjoy-A-Hasse. Ruled by a crazy old man named Rum, with armed guards and a vision of a perfect society - a society that follows his rules to a T and lives to see another day. Not so bad, right? But at least Rum's strict control and need for order make sure their cargo gets home each and every time.

This is where Ella lives. A self-trained doctor who saw the last members of her family killed in one of the aforementioned ambushes before they arrive in the city. Losing everyone she cared for drove her to be something more than a survivor - she was going to help others survive in this hellhole, too. So she gathered up what old books she could salvage from the 'old world' and read all of them at least ten times. Practiced on animals and everything else until she actually knew what the hell she was doing. It was nowhere near perfect, but then again... nothing in this shitty world is.
